Runway shows and fashion magazines are showing three favorite colors for spring 2010: neutral, bright and patterns. Find out which types of jewelry combine best with each

Fashion Week for Spring 2010 was held last fall. However, it’s finally getting warm enough to start wearing the styles and colors previewed six months ago. It’s no surprise that neutrals are being shown. No matter what the season, fashion lovers can always count on their neutrals spanning seasons in colors – although maybe not always in style. And, of course, since it’s spring, warm and bright colors are also on the agenda. To follow are some garments previewed during various Spring 2010 Fashion Weeks and suggestions for jewelry to complement but not overwhelm the garment.

White, Beige and Taupe Garments and Jewelry

These three neutral colors always look good worn with pearls or gold jewelry. However, taupe can be a tricky color. Depending on the hue, it can look like a warm light brown or more on the grayish side. Should the garment appear to be more grey than brown in hue, sterling silver jewelry will look best. When in doubt arrange the garment on a hanger with the jewelry and see whether the gold or silver-toned jewelry looks the best.

Checking out the neutral garments shown in the images accompanying this article, it’s clear that bid-type statement necklaces are still in style. A low neckline will seem less bare for daywear when the open expanse is filled with jewelry.

Wearing a necklace with garments having oversized collars and pockets can result in too much going on towards the top of the body, drawing attention away from the face. A better jewelry choice would be oversized bracelets – especially when worn with rolled up sleeves as shown below. The black accents in the bracelets accessorizes with the shoes, purse lining and skirt.

Patterned Garments and Jewelry

When the garment has a strong pattern as shown in the dress below, the best bet for a jewelry accessory would be simple earrings. Any other type of jewelry would be too competitive with the gorgeous surface design of the fabric. Post or dangling earrings would be best. Some sort of green gemstone such as emerald, peridot or common green opal would look fantastic with this print.

Bright Color Garments and Jewelry

Blue and yellow are two perennial favors for spring and summer. Jewelry lovers can’t go wrong by combining the complementary color yellow with blue and vice versa.

Wear bright yellow garments with blue turquoise, blue agate, sky blue aquamarine and blue topaz. It’s hard to combine either gold or silver-toned jewelry with this shade of yellow. Chokers worn with a simple boat-necked top always look great.

Wear bright blue garments citrine, yellow topaz and tourmaline. Sterling silver jewelry will also combine well with this color. Bracelets or earrings are the best choice for a similar garment due to the gorgeous neckline detail.
